Seapork Techno Fossils

Baker's most recent work has focused on studying a coastal marine animal called sea porks (tunicates). These colonial creatures continue to expand until inadvertently they wash up on the beach after a storm.

At this point in the Anthropocene, scientists have come up with a new classification for fossils that have started to develop called Techno Fossils. These fossils are composed of man-made objects that do not easily break down over time. Techno fossils have become so densely dispersed over the earth's crust, that this can be seen as a new strata level. Baker is actively participating in the creation of a new techno fossil by making sculptural representations of sea porks. These sculptures have a foam core that has been collected from rivers and coastlines. These works are displayed on a tapestry that has a woven image of sand and more recently on CNC recovered MDF that used a 3D scan of a beach.
